Even if your kids are still in school, helping them create a LinkedIn profile is always a good idea. Most people know LinkedIn as simply a job searching application.

The truth is LinkedIn has a lot to offer aside from jobs! It also has features found on popular social media platforms. That’s why it’s never too early to create one for your young one!

In this article, we’ll provide 9 easy steps you can use in guiding your child while building their LinkedIn profile. Read on!

What is LinkedIn?

Of course, you would want to first introduce what LinkedIn is. Tell your kids that LinkedIn is the “world’s largest professional networking platform.” It was founded in 2002 by Reid Hoffman, an entrepreneur and product and business strategist.

Through LinkedIn, people can create a profile. This will serve as their digital résumé! Then, they can connect with professional friends or follow business professionals—even Reid Hoffman himself!

Your kids asking for some interactive features? Tell them not to worry! Because LinkedIn also lets its users create posts to share their professional experiences. They can also share, react, and comment on someone else’s post!

But of course, you would want to explain to them that one of LinkedIn’s major features is job applications. Users can search for any kind of job that fits their skills and experience.

You may also encourage your child to explore and develop new skills through LinkedIn Learn! LinkedIn Learn lets users get access to courses and instructional videos on a variety of topics.

If you want your kids to maximize their learning, you may opt for a monthly or annual subscription. LinkedIn pricing is $29.99 per month or $19.99 for a yearly subscription.

Of course, all these basic features are for free. But you can also pay for your kids’ premium account with a LinkedIn pricing of $29.99 per month. This will make them access exclusive features like seeing who viewed their profile and a lot more!

How To Create LinkedIn Profile

Here are 9 easy steps to follow in guiding your child while they create their LinkedIn profile.

Step 1: LinkedIn Sign In

Before taking the first step, make sure that your young ones are within LinkedIn’s minimum age requirement. And that’s 16 years old!

Good to go? Your kids can sign in using the LinkedIn website at https://linkedin.com. You can also help them download the mobile app. Tell them to click the “Join now” option at the top right corner.

They’ll then need to provide an email address and a password. Click “Agree & Join.” Then, they’ll have to fill up the necessary basic information such as their name, country of residence, and industry.

Lastly, help them verify their email address! Tell them to click the “verify” button on the email sent by LinkedIn. And voilà! Greet them congrats as they already have a LinkedIn account!

Step 2: Choose Professional Profile Photo

After the LinkedIn sign in step, your can now help your kids in organizing their profile! Of course, the first thing they would want to do is add a photo. You would want to help them choose a professional-looking one.

As much as possible, tell them not to leave their profile photo empty. In most cases, this may signify that the account is inactive. Of course, you don’t want your kids’ profile to be ignored. You can also help them add a professional-looking banner if they wish to!

Step 3: Add Location

A lot of people may think that adding their location is not really important. But that’s false! Tell your kids that adding a location can make them more searchable to employers and other LinkedIn users. This is also helpful to get them notified whenever a job or internship is opening in their area!

To add location, they can click the “Edit” icon at the top right corner of their profile. Scroll down until they see “Country/Region” and “Location.”

Step 4: Add Industry and Professional Headline

Under the location, they can also add their industry! Remind them that this is another piece of important information for employers. This also helps in aligning LinkedIn job suggestions with their background.

Tell them that a headline is also a great addition to a LinkedIn profile! A headline is shown under the name, similar to a bio in other social media profiles.

They may opt to put their current educational level or college major as their headline. But of course, you can help them come up with a creative one. Just remember that users have a limit of 120 characters!

Step 5: Write Professional Summary

After fixing their profile intro, you can now guide them in writing their summary! Users have a limit of 2,000 characters in this. So make sure to include the highlights of their educational or professional experience.

You can start by introducing and describing their field of education or area of expertise. Then you can enumerate their relevant qualifications and accomplishments. You can also include their hobbies, interests, and personal values!

Step 6: Add Educational Background

Of course, you’ll want to add your kids’ educational background! This is especially important for students and fresh graduates who don’t have a lot of experience yet. To do this, they can simply click the “Add section” button under their profile intro and find “Education” under “Background.”

Step 7: List Down Relevant Experiences

This is arguably the most important section in a LinkedIn profile: work experience! But tell your kids not to worry if they don’t have that much experience just yet. Here, you can also include their relevant experiences during their high school or college years. They can include internships and organizational positions as well!

Step 8: Add At Least 5 Skills

You can also help them add a section to display their skills! This will help employers know if their skill set matches the job description. In the skills section, their connections can also “vote” as a way of endorsing them!

Step 9: Connect with Other LinkedIn Users

Through LinkedIn, your kids can start expanding their network. They can also follow big names in different industries! On top of that, they’ll surely meet people who can be their friends outside the professional world.

They can add connections by simply clicking the “Connect” button in a person’s profile.

A Few More Tips

And that’s it! Your *young adult* now has their own LinkedIn profile! But here are a few more tips that can help in guiding your kids:

  • Familiarize yourself with the platform and its algorithm. Of course, you can’t help your kids maximize their LinkedIn space if you’re not knowledgeable in the first place!
  • Make sure to guide your kids in choosing the right connections. They’ll probably have no idea who to connect with at first. You can suggest adding your colleagues!
  • Encourage your child to explore and take on opportunities for personal and professional growth. Don’t forget to remind them to update their profiles every now and then!

What are you waiting for? Call your young ones. Grab your laptop or mobile device. Then, head over to https://linkedin.com. Again, it’s never too early to help build their LinkedIn profile!

There are numerous responsibilities that we need to face when we are turning to adulthood. Bills, paperworks, and applying for an identification card (ID card) in different government agencies are some of the examples of our responsibilities as we become adults.

In finding a job in the future, it is important to acquire various government issued ID cards— specifically a PhilHealth ID card. Not only is it needed for a job requirement, it offers extensive health care benefits.

Nowadays, preventing illness and serious injuries are challenging things to maintain especially when we are not backed-up with any healthcare insurance. However, how can you secure yourself if you are a student who is not yet lawfully permitted to take a job?

Fortunately, PhilHealth caters various benefits whenever we are hospitalized. Several Filipinos are unable to pay their hospital bills due to the high cost of health care available. This is why the majority of people apply for PhilHealth to finance their treatment.

Health Care Solutions of PhilHealth

You certainly desire that you do not need to use PhilHealth privileges at any point since you are only a student. However, illness is inevitable, therefore having medical insurance is helpful in the event that you do require it. That is why PhilHealth functions as an agency rooted from the government capable of giving medical help and healthcare privileges to the people.

A child might be wondering right now on how to register for PhilHealth due to the advantages it presents to their members. However, is it possible for a student to register for PhilHealth? Well, definitely yes.

PhilHealth for Students

Do you consider yourself having attained the age of independence, at the same time a student but aren’t yet financially secure enough to pay a monthly charge to Philhealth? Technically, you are under the category of a dependent if this is the case.

Students under the age of 21 can register in PhilHealth and receive its services without paying any extra costs. They will, however, be recognized as dependent members. These members are people whose payments are provided by eligible/primary members (e.g. an adult), and who are identified by the principal member in their amended PhilHealth MDR (Member’s Data Record) which we will be discussing later. The dependents will be insured separately for maximum to 45 days every calendar year, however the stipend will be divided.

If you are willing to apply, you can opt for membership through PhilHealth online registration for easy and accessible steps. You may also go for PhilHealth manual registration. Not sure how these two ways work? Read these steps and guarantee that you will be enlightened to read!

Every parent knows the struggle of keeping their kids focused on doing tasks — most especially their school works or even the simple tasks that are given to them at home. The environment surrounding them plays a huge factor in squeezing out their creative juices, making them productive, and determining their overall mood. Hence, it is essential to invest time and effort to personalize their home workspace.

Given this dilemma, this article is catered to give parents some tips on how they can increase their children’s concentration and productivity levels! Fret not, because these tips are all as easy to remember as the ABCs!

Finding the perfect workspace for your child

The ABC’s of Workspace Productivity

Everyone has their own taste when it comes to designing their working environments. Through using the ABCs as acronyms, presented below are fun and easy tips to teach your children on how they can achieve utmost productivity in the comfort of their home workspaces!

1. Add Room Scents!

Aromatherapy can help reduce stress while working.  It is proven to calm anxiety, improve your mood, and boost your mental functionality. Whenever you need to work on something tedious and you have to sit down for hours in front of the screen, blast off some scents to relieve yourself from the stress. Adding scented candles, essential oils, or dried flowers inside your room can give you a pop of productivity in no time!

TIP: Lavender scents are effective to refresh your mind. It can also make your room feel and smell really good, too!

2. Bring in plants!

Decorating your child’s work from home workspace with indoor plants can radiate relaxation and refreshment. Aside from helping them achieve their desired aesthetic, plants also help clean the air circulating inside their home workspace, thus, improving attentiveness, focus, and creativity.

TIP: Low maintenance plants such as Aloe Vera are best for home workspaces as they only require minimal water and sunlight to thrive.

3. Clean the Clutter

An organized workspace reflects an organized mind. Having a mess-free home office workspace helps keep your focus and heightens your mental functionality. Incorporating the importance of cleanliness gives children a sense of responsibility to always clean up their mess and keep their work area tidy. Cable management, for instance, keeps wires from tangling by using cable organizers. Mini vacuum cleaners are also efficient in cleaning hard-to-reach areas such as keyboard gaps and table edges.

4. Decide on Your Room Color

Color affects mood. It is important to discuss with your children how they want their room to be decorated to ensure that they will constantly feel comfortable, relaxed, and productive all throughout.

TIP: If they have a small workspace, try convincing them to paint their room with light colors such as white, off-white, or pastel tones. This will make it appear more spacious. In addition, rooms with lighter colors can create a brighter workspace, saving your family from consuming electricity!

5. Eliminate Distractions

The presence of distracting noises are hard to avoid especially in a small workspace. Hence, it is good to invest in good noise-canceling earphones in order to block distracting sounds. Given that everyone has different preferences when it comes to sound, observe where your child finds more comfort, in order to cater to their productivity needs!

TIP: For those children who work well with white noise, you may introduce them to Coffivity sounds to help them concentrate on their tasks.

6. Find the Right Lighting

Having a good source of lighting radiates a positive mood in your environment. Placing your child’s desk near where natural light comes in will make you feel more awake and focused. It will also give you a sense of connection with nature, making you feel more relaxed and calm. In the case where natural light does not penetrate well inside your area,  you may also opt to put desk lamps in your workspace to achieve a well-lit area.

7. Get an Extension cord

Different kinds of gadgets such as laptops, cellphones, headphones, and speakers may be present in your child’s home office workspace. Given that these gadgets require electricity to function, it is important to provide their workspace with a heavy-duty extension cord for convenience and to keep all of their devices in place.

8. Have Yourself an Ergonomic Workspace!

As parents, your child’s comfort should be one of your utmost priorities. Your children’s work from home workspaces must provide them convenience in order to maximize productivity.  Investing in ergonomic equipment such as office chairs, monitor risers, laptop stands, and wireless mice can help improve their posture, reduce muscle strain, and provide optimal comfort.

Productive Workspaces Make Children Hit Aces!

Introducing ways on how to establish productive environments to children at an early age will help them develop a keen sense of organization, management, and responsibility. At the same time, it is also important to let them independently explore what works best for their concentration while still guiding them on a minimal level.

In addition, tell your children that ergonomics should always be above aesthetics. Going otherwise will defeat the purpose of revamping your child’s workspaces. This is to achieve their desired environment without compromising their comfort and physical ability to do work.

Developing productive habits could help shape a person’s character. The eight (8) ABC’s of productivity tips will surely guide you, as supportive parents, on how to explore your child’s potential in the comfort of their own home workspace!
